The Thanksgiving Talk

Thanksgiving is less than 48 hours away, and it’s bound to be an interesting one for millions of Americans. It always is when Thanksgiving occurs weeks after a major presidential election.
Soon, millions will be traveling to a grandparent’s place, or an uncle or aunt’s house, or maybe a cousin’s residence. According to AAA Newsroom, approximately 80 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home for Thanksgiving, marking an increase of 1.7 million from 2023 and 2 million more than in 2019. Nearly 6 million of those people will be flying domestically, a 2% increase from last year and nearly 11% more than in 2019. Between inevitable delays and traffic, it truly is one of the busiest travel holidays in the country.
It’s also probably the most consequential when it comes to family politics. Usually, by Christmas, enough time has passed. Plus, the component of gift-giving helps gloss over any unwelcome political conversations. But with Thanksgiving, it’s almost unavoidable. The concept is to sit around a table, eat food, and converse with family about what they’re thankful for (such as who they’re grateful for winning the presidency).
With Thanksgiving, the political wounds for some relatives are still fresh. It’s only been three weeks since the election. A couple of Democrats out there are going down the rabbit hole that there is some magical chance Harris actually will win somehow, someway. They’re a mess.
Some families thankfully have it easy. They could all be on the same side of the political spectrum and share the same beliefs and politics (like the Lynch family). Maybe the family is small enough, too, that it doesn’t pose an issue to worry about (also the Lynch family).
But there are, of course, some that aren’t so lucky. When you pair Uncle Bill, a war veteran who wears his red MAGA hat proudly, next to his leftist niece Nora majoring in liberal arts education while sporting a nose ring, blue-dyed hair, and a defiant HARRIS-WALZ pin, there’s going to be fireworks. Bill believes in the power of tariffs; niece Nora believes in unlimited abortion. Bill wants to protect the border; niece Nora wants to protect the transgender students. You get the picture.
I’m not sure how some families pull it off. I fear most don’t. There are definitely families out there that can put the election and politics to the side; some even have outright rules of not bringing it up. But for those the others, it’s inevitable. And then the name-calling begins…
“You’re a bigot” “You’re a libtard” “Trump’s a convict” “Kamala’s a moron” “YOU’RE RUINING THIS COUNTRY”
I’ve had friends who have had these situations unfold. I know there are TeamDML members who have dealt with similar situations too. In a way it’s a tale as old as time for election-year Thanksgivings, but something about the last few ones involving Trump seem to always draw out the most thunder.
While I would love to tell the next leftist I see “better luck next time” as a declarative statement on the 2024 election, I think for the betterment of the country (and collective sanity), it’s best to let the liberals wallow in their tears without tease this Thanksgiving. If you have that one liberal relative coming through to the Thanksgiving dinner that will be a whine-baby about the election, avoid engaging with them. Sit away from them. Bring up the weather, sports, a new TV show. Unless they make the first strike (“I can’t believe you voted for Trump”), it’s better to be the bigger man or woman this time around. There are only so many liberal tears that one can handle.
Ultimately, Thanksgiving is meant to express gratitude and reflect on the blessings of the past year. And to eat a big cooked turkey followed by apple pie with no shame. Whether your liberal relatives will accept it or not, Trump is their president. He’s our president. He’s the country’s president. Let’s all be thankful and grateful we live in a country that still elects their president!

President-elect Donald Trump has announced three key appointments to lead critical White House offices, bringing together experienced political strategists with proven track records of success. These appointments signal a consistent strong start for the administration and its ambitious goals.
James Braid has been named Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. He served as Vice President-elect JD Vance’s chief policy staffer and previously worked with the House Freedom Caucus. Braid’s reputation for navigating complex legislative challenges, combined with his deep expertise in legislative processes and policy development, is expected to drive effective collaboration with Congress.
Matt Brasseaux, now Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Political Affairs, is widely regarded for his campaign acumen. His leadership in securing victories in battleground states like Arizona and Nevada during the 2024 campaign underscores his ability to deliver results under pressure. Brasseaux’s background includes his work with Governor Joe Lombardo’s campaign.
Alex Latcham will be Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Public Liaison. With eight years of dedicated service to Trump, including as Senior Deputy Political Director in the 2024 campaign, Latcham brings unparalleled experience in public engagement and coalition-building. His deep understanding of the Trump movement ensures he is well-positioned to strengthen relationships with grassroots supporters.

Divided More Than Ever
The Democratic Party in New York appears to be fracturing as U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, a Democrat from the Bronx, issued a scathing critique of state and city leadership for their failed criminal justice reforms.
In a sharply worded letter to Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Torres condemned the systemic failures that led to the tragic murders of three innocent people in a daylight stabbing spree last week. The attacks were carried out by a violent, mentally ill man who had been released from custody early despite a record of dangerous behavior.
“The bureaucrat in DOC [Department of Correction] who authorized the early release of Ramon should be fired,” Torres demanded in his letter, adding, “Those who cannot be entrusted with public safety should no longer be employed by the people of New York.”
He directly blamed both Hochul and Adams for the “layers upon layers of government failure” that allowed Ramon Rivera, a repeat offender with eight prior arrests, to roam free and carry out his deadly rampage.
Highlighting the growing internal rift within the Democratic Party, Torres has labeled Hochul “the new Joe Biden” and suggested she may be a liability for Democrats in retaining power in New York. He has hinted at a potential gubernatorial run in 2026, stating that he plans to embark on a “listening tour” across the state to assess the feasibility of a campaign.
ALSO: Walmart is revising its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, joining other corporations in scaling back "woke" initiatives. Activist Robby Starbuck, known for opposing such policies, revealed he warned Walmart executives about exposing their "wokeness" shortly before the announcement. Read More Here.

Rest in Peace, Pastor Singleton
Pastor Stephen Singleton, a well-known Detroit-area minister, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle driven by an illegal immigrant from Colombia.
The 72-year-old pastor was out for his regular morning run on November 3, wearing a reflective vest and using a crosswalk, when he was hit by a driver who allegedly ran a red light.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as a 28-year-old Colombian national who was in the U.S. illegally and did not possess a valid U.S. driver’s license. Instead, the individual held a foreign driver’s license that was legally accepted in Michigan. Customs and Border Protection later confirmed that the man had unlawfully entered the United States and was released with a notice to appear at a future immigration hearing.
Pastor Singleton, who was thrown onto the windshield during the collision, suffered catastrophic injuries, including multiple broken bones and severe organ damage, and was declared brain-dead on November 8.
Singleton’s widow, Teri Singleton, expressed heartbreak over the lack of accountability, saying, “I had to sit and watch my husband of 53 years die in front of me, and then to know that the person who did this is walking around is very difficult to deal with.”

DML surprise returned to the podcast today for the first time in over a week following his surgery! He had wrote the following on Team DML:
Just a heads up. Last Monday I had another mouth surgery. It’s been brutal, and now I’ve caught a massive sinus infection from it all. I return tomorrow to my surgeon for post surgery check up. I’m 50/50 for Wed. I’m out Monday and Tuesday. The boys will do their best to carry the load.
