I: THE DML REPORT

Written by Denny

ARTIFICIAL SOCIETY
A massive change awaits.

There are few days left before the election of our lifetime and everything is going off the rails.

For starters, over the past few weeks the south was hit with two hurricanes that have decimated communities and families, and stirred concerns about polling locations remaining operable (or even post offices, for that matter). People are still without clean water and shelter, so FEMA is not doing a very good job. (SIDE NOTE: My family and I lived through the storm in Florida, and our neighborhood was hit with an EF3 tornado. My dad produced a video of the nightmare our town lived through. You can watch it by clicking here.

Then there is the news that Trump may have had a third assassination attempt on his life. Tack on China showing signs of aggression towards Taiwan, Israel attacking Lebanon, and Ukraine is still at war with Russia. All in, with Biden and Harris at the helm, the wheels are coming off both at home and abroad.

One of the craziest stories that happened last week involves Elon Musk, and it was severely overlooked either accidentally or perhaps purposely.

In my opinion, the biggest name in the 2024 election, other than Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and their respective running mates, is Elon Musk. The innovative billionaire leads critical areas of technology and science, such as SpaceX and Tesla. He’s unlocked the chains on Twitter (now X) by allowing more transparency and protection to free speech than rivaling social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.

He’s also the creator of the faceless Optimus robot, which he unveiled a few years back at one of his testing facilities. And he just revealed their enhanced new capabilities at his We, Robot event in Los Angeles. The event mainly concerned Musk’s upcoming blueprints for automated vehicles like the Robotaxi and robovan, but the Optimus robots became the real talk of the town.

The robots were remotely controlled by staff at the event; the point of the presentation was to showcase their future capabilities. One of the robots served as a bartender to patrons, such as making a margarita. Another robot shook hands with a person and made hand gestures like the thumbs-up sign. Many of them “walked” around and interacted with guests, asking questions and requests for any tasks like a drink refill.

Even though the AI behind these particular robots is smoke and mirrors (Musk admits they’re not in complete control autonomously), it makes me wonder about the future realities of our world. If Donald Trump wins the election, there’s no doubt Musk will become a staple of his administration. He’s been largely ignored by the Biden-Harris administration due to his political stances and, to an extent, has even been ostracized by them.

Biden has hosted EV events and has purposefully shunned inviting Musk despite his achievements with Tesla cars. Musk has also been denied permits to conduct more spaceflight operations by state governments (e.g., leftist California) simply because he does not align with any of their woke agendas, such as transgender rights to minors.

With Trump in office, Musk will be unleashed. Overall, I think it’s a good thing. He’s intelligent, passionate about bettering the world, and he wants to lower the costs of living for Americans. But he is also a billionaire with an enormous asset of toys.

This brings me to my concern. There’s no doubt self-controlled cars will become the new normal (they already are in certain cities). But I mostly fear that autonomous robots will be the norm in my lifetime, and they will be everywhere. They’ll be in schools, businesses, hospitals, restaurants, and our homes. Truth be told, even if Kamala wins, it’ll just be someone else behind the robot movement, like Mark Zuckerberg or OpenAI’s Sam Altman.

One of the big videos from the We, Robot event was about the Optimus robot working as a bartender. Years back in college, when my buddies and I would go out for a drink, sometimes the best interaction was with a bartender. Once I was on a spring break cruise with three of my friends, and half the trip we hung out with the upper deck bartender. He was an older gentleman from the Phillippines, and he told us wild stories about his upbringing on the islands there. We would talk to him for a few hours each night of that cruise, trading laughs and drinking beers.

With an Optimus robot behind the bar, those interactions are gone. The same will be said with a robot as a student’s teacher or a patient’s doctor. And it all might seem far away, but in reality, it’s closer than we realize. Musk’s robots might’ve been controlled behind the scenes by an operator for this event, but he’s currently trialing autonomous ones at his production facilities. It won’t be long before the Optimus bot, or something similar evolves into something more.

And that brings in more questions, such as how will our economy shape and react? Will it be detrimental to job losses, or will life be made easier with their capabilities? Will they evolve to the point of becoming more conscious? Will the robot rights movement be a thing? And what will they be capable of doing outside their primary objectives? I don’t believe robots will be capable of understanding human emotion, only logical reasoning. And so what if the robot doctor thinks a patient isn’t worth saving based on its own calculus? Will it decide the patient’s fate? Will it obey human orders that contradict its calculated decision? Robot revolution?

I ask myself a rabbit hole of questions every time I see one of these robot/AI events. So many of these questions end up tailoring to the ultimate question: Will this be good or bad for society? Sometimes, I think the answer is behind the creator of the bots, the programming, the technology, and everything in between.

If it’s Musk, I have some faith. But if it’s any of the other prominent Silicon Valley types under a Harris-Walz administration, I think we have to concern ourselves with the future of mankind.

II: WHITE HOUSE 2024

The Fighter becomes the Bettor

TRUMP 2024

Best Bets

Betting markets are heavily favoring former President Donald Trump as the frontrunner over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race.

Trump’s odds on BetOnline currently sit at -145, signaling that bookmakers believe he is the favorite to win, while Harris trails with +125. This shift mirrors recent trends across multiple betting platforms, including PredictIt and PolyMarket, as reported by Fox News.

After two months of favoring Harris, PredictIt traders have now switched their bets in favor of Trump. As of Monday afternoon, Trump led Harris with 54 percent to her 49 percent on the platform, marking a significant shift just weeks before the election. This is the first time Harris has fallen below 50 percent since late July.

The trend is also apparent on PolyMarket, a crypto-based prediction market. Initially showing a close race, Trump has since pulled ahead. As of Monday, Trump was given a 55 percent chance of reclaiming the White House, compared to a 45 percent chance for Harris.

Additionally, a Rasmussen Reports and American Thinker poll conducted between October 9-13 reflected a similar edge for Trump in key battleground states. In Pennsylvania, 50 percent of likely voters indicated they would vote for Trump, compared to 47 percent who said they would back Harris.

"We did nothing, Joe"

HARRIS 2024

Kamala’s Hypocrisy

Kamala Harris accused Donald Trump of being “increasingly unstable and unhinged” during a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, just days after an armed man was arrested near Trump’s Coachella Valley rally, which authorities have described the incident as the third assassination attempt against the former president.

“He is out for unchecked power,” Harris claimed, further stating, “He wants to send the military after American citizens.”

Uh, hello? … “increasingly unstable and unhinged” … this is how we’ve all described JOE BIDEN; IT’S WHY YOU’RE THE RUNNING CANDIDATE NOW?!?!

In response to the hypocritical statements, Trump blamed Harris and Biden for inciting violence against him, telling Fox News, “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at.” Trump specifically referenced Ryan Routh, who set up a sniper’s nest outside his Palm Beach golf course intending to assassinate him. Trump added, “He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it.”

Security concerns escalated further when Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco confirmed that deputies stopped Vem Miller, 49, at a checkpoint near Trump’s rally. Miller was found carrying a shotgun, a handgun, a high-capacity magazine, and several fake passports. Sheriff Bianco emphasized the seriousness of the incident, saying, “I truly do believe we prevented another assassination attempt.”

ALSO: Harris’s campaign reportedly talked with podcaster Joe Rogan’s team about a possible interview on The Joe Rogan Experience following Trump’s announcement that he will appear on the show. Reuters reported that Harris’s team met with Rogan’s representatives this week, though no interview has been confirmed.

III: BORDERLESS

Crossing Deadline

Race to the border

Will Trump stop the caravans?

A new migrant caravan of around 1,000 people left Mexico’s southern border this weekend, heading toward Mexico City. From there, the group plans to disperse and find routes to the U.S. border. This is the second caravan since Claudia Sheinbaum became Mexico's president on October 1.

The caravan, named "God is Guiding Us," started in Tapachula, Chiapas. It includes migrants from Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Haiti, Panamá, Costa Rica, Afghanistan, and Nepal. Their ultimate goal is to reach the U.S. border before former President Donald Trump is potentially elected and inaugurated in January.

The migrants in the caravan, who have legal status in Mexico, had been waiting in Chiapas for appointments through the Biden-Harris administration's CBP One app. However, frustrated by long delays, the group’s organizers decided to move forward.

Venezuela’s La Verdad reported that migrants in the caravan cited food shortages and a lack of medical care in Chiapas. The publication also emphasized that economic need was the primary motivation for their journey to the United States. According to Jonathan Rojas, a caravan participant, there are also fears about Trump's recent statements about potentially shutting down current immigration pathways.

“There is real concern that if he (Trump) gets elected, they will close the border,” Rojas said. “We can’t keep waiting for them to give us an appointment. Conditions here in Chiapas are not healthy, there are too many of us and not enough supplies and space. They (the Mexican government) need to help us.”
